Azam thrashed Ethiopia side Adama City 4-1 in Group A to reach to reach quarter-finals of Cecafa Kagame Cup on Saturday at Kigali Regional Stadium.
The Tanzanian champions finished on second position with eight points, two behind Rayon Sports, who labored to a 1-0 win over Atlabara of South Sudan, thanks to an 87th minute strike by second half substitute Govin Motombo, who replaced Robert Ndatimana.
Azam got their win over Adama City through goals from skipper John Rafael Bocco in the 29th minute, Didier Kavumbagu (55), Khamis Mcha Khamis (60) minute and Kipre Tche Tche (75), while Dabesh Desaleny scored Adama’s only goal in the 39th minute of the game.
Azam will meet El Meriekh in the quarter-finals, who finished second in Group C, Rayon Sport will face the second team in Group B between APR or KCCA, while the top team in this group (A) will meet Atlabara.
Police FC will wait to find out their opponent in the last eight. Their likely opponent is between Djibouti Telecom, who plays Gor Mahia, but if Telecom loses to the Kenyan champions, who are already eliminated, they (Police) will face Atletico of Burundi, who are third in Group B.
The quarter-finals will start on Tuesday at Kigali Regional Stadium.
