Rayon Sports have staked Rwf100, 000 for each player should they beat AS Kigali in the Easter Turbo King National Football League decisive match at Amahoro stadium today.
Rayon head coach, Luc Eymael, told Sunday Sport that he wasn’t sure if everyone at the club understood the importance of today’s game after reports that players were not paid last month’s salary.
“A win over AS Kigali would leave us with 70 percent chances of winning the league title. This is a very important match but I don’t know if everyone understands the impact of this match in as far as our ambitions for the season are concerned,” said the Belgian, whose six-month contract runs at the end of July.
Rayon Sports’ team manager Thierry Hitimana confirmed to Sunday Sport that the players had not yet been paid last month’s salary but the club is doing everything possible to sort out the.
He said, “players were supposed to be paid from the gate collections of our match against APR, but since the stadium (7,000-seater Kigali Regional Stadium) was small, we didn’t get enough money to sort out the salary issue.”
“However, we hope to raise enough money from Sunday’s match against AS Kigali to pay the salaries, and so on top of that, each of them (players) will be given Rwf100, 000 as bonus if they win,” disclosed the former Rayon Sports midfielder.
Both teams will be hoping that the Sunday match will be kind to them as none can afford any room for errors.
Rayon Sports, who are joint leaders with 55 points and a 3-goal difference over arch rivals APR, wants to complete a double over their opponents, while AS Kigali, who stand third with 44 points, need maximum points to maintain their position on top.
Eymael will be boosted with availability of key striker Papy Kamanzi and defender Alype Majyambere, who both returned to full fitness following weeks on sidelines with knee injuries.
AS Kigali coach, Andre Casa Mbungo said, “we are determined to win this game because a win will help us to stay in third position.”
Failure by the reigning champions to get all three points against stubborn opponents AS Kigali, would hand the advantage to second-placed APR, who host relegation-threatened Amagaju FC at Kigali Regional Stadium.
