Police handball club are targeting to win this year’s Heroes’ Day tournament set for today to make up for a disappointing lasts season in which they went trophy-less.

Police handball club are targeting to win this year’s Heroes’ Day tournament set for today to make up for a disappointing lasts season in which they went trophy-less.

This year’s edition is scheduled to be played at the University of Rwanda- College of Education (former K.I.E) and Kimisagara youth sports center courts. Gicumbi and ES Mukingi are the defending champions in the men and women’s category respectively.

The three-time tournament winners Police, along with league champions Giicumbi are the favourites to challenge for the men’s title, while ES Mukingi are odds-on to retain the women’s crown.

“We have had enough preparations and players are ready for the tournament, we want to win this tournament as way to making a good start to the new season,” Police head coach Anaclet Bagirishya told Sunday Sport.

The former league champions have strengthened their squad with six new payers in preparation for the forthcoming season.

The six players include: Jean de Dieu Nyirimanzi and Jean Marie Vianey Kunduwawe from APR, Jean Nepomuscene Niyishaka and Prince Niwemahoro from ES Kigoma and Emmanuel Kanyarwanda from GS RAmbura and Modeste Ifashuwayo from Gicumbi.

Teams registered to participate

Men: APR, University of Rwanda- College of Arts and Social Cciences (NUR), University of Rwanda- College of Education (KIE), Police, Nyakabanda, ES Kigoma , Gicumbi and Rwamagana.

Women: ES Mukingi, UR- College of Education (KIE), UR- College of Arts and Social Sciences (NUR), GS APPEGA Gahengeri, GS Mwendo and APAPEG Cyuru.
