APR vs CSK 2pm
KBC vs Espoir 4pm
KBC 61-40 CSK
KIGALI Basketball Club (KBC) want to be the first local team to beat hand defending champions Espoir their first loss in one and half seasons when the two rivals meet at Amahoro indoor stadium, starting at 4pm.
The 2011 champions, who are targeting to finish the regular league second round unbeaten, go into today’s big game on the back of a comfortable 61-40 win over Cercle Sportif de Kigali (CSK) on Friday.
Meanwhile, by press time, Espoir were due to take on bottom-placed 30-Plus last evening at Amahoro indoor stadium.
Ahead of today’s game, KBC head Coach Cyrille Kalima told Sunday Sport, “Friday’s win against CSK give us more confidence and belief that we can stop Espoir’s unbeaten run.”
“We need to be consistent and beating Espoir would be another step towards achieving our target of finishing the second round unbeaten. It won’t be easy against the champions, who have not lost in the league since the stand of last season,” he added.
Kalima will be looking for big performances of his star players including the vastly experienced Mike Buzangu.
For their part, Espoir’s captain and point guard Aristide Mugabe said, “We are ready to win on Sunday and move closer to retaining our title. The game means a lot to us.”
“We don’t want to take anything for granted but the target is to go another season unbeaten, nonetheless KBC are on form and will be hard to beat,” noted last season’s MVP.
The KBC vs Espoi game will be preceded by the clash between former champions APR and CSK at the same venue.
