Through your paper I would like to remind fellow parents about ensuring road safety for their school going children.
Recently a pupil from Kigali Parents Primary School was knocked dead by a speeding vehicle as she tried to cross the road on her way to school. This child’s life probably could have been saved if the child had been escorted to school by a parent or helper.
Parents should be responsible and not assume that the traffic police is in charge of road safety and their children’s lives. As a responsible parent the safety of your child on the road should be a priority.
Parents should always endeavour to take their children to school or find somebody responsible to help them cross the road and walk on the right lanes along the road.
On the other hand, the police should come in to enforce the law, particularly on drivers who are always over speeding near school boundaries.
