BCEG takes over Kigali Convention Complex site

KIGALI - The Beijing Construction Engineering Group (BCEG), a company that was contracted to undertake construction of the Kigali Convention Complex is expected to take over the site this week.

This was revealed by Leopold Mukama, the Managing Director of Ultimate Concepts, the company responsible for the project.

“The construction group will take over the site this week and they will start by putting up basic infrastructure such as offices and warehouses, which will enable them operate efficiently,” he said adding that the phase will take about two months before construction of the complex begins.

The move comes three weeks after BCEG was contracted as the construction company for this multi-billion complex.

Mukama added that the equipment needed for construction will also be acquired during this mobilisation period stressing that the actual works will have started by August 8.

Out of the Rwf128 billion that has been earmarked for the entire project, Rwf111.9 billion will go to BCEG for the works while the balance will be used to purchase materials for final touches.

According to Mukama, the convention centre which is set to be complete within 32 months will comprise of a five star hotel with 292 rooms, a conference centre with capacity to accommodate 2500 people and office space.

BCEG is one of the top Chinese construction companies. It is well known for the construction of china’s biggest terminal and Tanzania’s 60,000 seater national stadium.
