REFER TO the story, “Rwanda, Kenya and Uganda showcase joint tourist visa at Berlin exhibition” (The New Times, March 7).
This is a practical and welcome demonstration that our governments are really walking the talk, and putting their money where their mouths are. It shows that where there is high level political will and leaders unwilling to accept bureaucratic foot-dragging, African countries can deliver as well as anyone else. Bravo to our leaders.
Now let us see similar progress on all the tripartite projects agreed by the principals, including the elimination of all the barriers, non-tariff, bureaucratic or otherwise – that make intra-regional trade, including among or through East African neighbours – such an extraordinary migraine-inducing obstacle-course that would defeat the patience even of job.
