Since late last year, Afrobeat singer Mako Nikoshwa has been bracing himself for a musical comeback. But other than restrict himself to the time-tested strategy of releasing song after song, the singer has chosen to repackage himself as a live act.
Tonight, the singer will showcase his live act at the newly opened Club 9 at Hilltop Hotel in Remera.
Themed “Mako Nikoshwa Nite”, the weekly live performance will take over the club every Tuesday night from 7pm.
The singer said that he created the theme night as a way of establishing a contact address from which to mingle with fans, friends and fellow musicians.
“I want to do everything within my means to reconnect with my fans because I have been away for long. I want my fans to see me and know what kind of performances they should expect from me whether in Kigali or upcountry. Even when I go to the villages, I will perform live because the fans deserve it,” said Mako Nikoshwa.
The night will also feature guest artistes with a touch for live performances. Entrance to the concert is free.
Last year, Mako Nikoshwa recorded songs like Nzahura ngukunda and Ndakumbura, to add to his decade-long list of songs. His old songs include Nirere, Izuba rirashe and Bonne année.
This year, Mako Nikoshwa has been putting together a live band ahead of a series of countrywide concerts with which he hopes to reclaim some of his lost glory.
