Dr. Anita Asiimwe, the Minister of State in charge of Public Health and Primary Health Care, has urged health departments to join hands in the fight against mother and child mortality. She made the call today during the launch of the Mother, Adolescent and Child Health Week in Gisagara District, Southern Province.
Among other health issues, the three-day campaign will focus on malaria, malnutrition, birth control and cervical cancer. Screening, vaccination, treatment and sensitisation of pregnant women will also be undertaken.
“No child anywhere should die as a result of a preventable disease, and this campaign is an important milestone towards achieving that goal,” said Noala Skinner, Unicef country representative.
