Strategy on refugees, returnees long overdue

Editor,

THERE IS indeed for a well-laid plan of action to deal with the refugee crisis and instances of a high number of returnees.

Without a proper strategy, the effects a refugee situation pose range from disease outbreaks to deaths. When Rwandans and perceived Rwandans were evicted from Tanzania, there were a range of challenges that were experienced considering the fact that there was no land to immediately resettle them.

It is good that the government is admitting that there has not been a very good plan to deal with such crises.

Also, instances like the Congolese refugees’ spillover can be reduced if not avoided since the Government of Rwanda is partnering with the UN and other stakeholders to help ensure stability in that part of the world.
