Stop exaggerating wedding ceremonies

Editor, I am really concerned about people who think weddings are all about money. A wedding is just where two people exchange vows in front of witnesses. It is unfortunate that many interpret it for a luxurious party where they need to invite thousands of people.

Editor,

I am really concerned about people who think weddings are all about money. A wedding is just where two people exchange vows in front of witnesses. It is unfortunate that many interpret it for a luxurious party where they need to invite thousands of people.

In Kigali, weddings have become serious business for hotel owners since everyone chooses the best hotel for a reception. That’s not bad but you should always cut your coat according to your cloth.

What is the purpose of throwing a very lavish wedding and have your honey moon at an expensive place in a different country yet you are to come back and not have food at home or even pay heavy loan instalments?

People should get over the show off thing because the people you want to impress will not be in your home as you struggle to deal with that financial crisis.

On many occasions people have married just to keep up appearances and to out do previous wedding ceremonies that they probably attended or heard about!

This is not what is basic in marriage. We should be ourselves and leave competition to those who have all the resources to throw about. After all we are all not equal.
