RWANDA’s Nyakabanda handball club travelled to Kampala, Uganda yesterday to take part in the Uganda Independence Day anniversary tournament due to take place today at Old Kampala SS.
Uganda handball federation had invited Rwandan teams but only Nyakabanda managed to make the trip for the one-day tournament. According to organisers, by Thursday ten teams (six for men and four of women) had registered.
The Nyamirambo-based Nyakabanda, who stand sixth with 21 points on the 8-team table with one league match to go, will be under the guidance of Anaclet Bagirishya, who usually coaches rivals, Police handball club.
“They (Nyakabanda) requested for my help just for this particular tournament and I couldn’t say no since they are representing the country and I hope I can be able to help them win the competitions,” Bagirishya told Saturday Sport.
The team is expected back in the country on Sunday.
