The Forum for Rwanda Women Parliamentarians (FFRP) is scheduled to hold its first retreat today, says a statement released by the organisation.

The two-day retreat that will lay strategies on how to improve leadership skills of women is expected to be held at Hotel Novotel.

“During the retreat, members of the forum are expected to harmonise working strategies with other partners and commit themselves to build partnerships among each other,” reads the statement in part.

The meeting will also present a 2009 plan of action of the forum based on its 2008-2012 strategic plans.

The retreat will answer questions like how the big number of women in the Parliament will bring any significant change in the social political aspects of any ordinary Rwandan women.

“Responses of such questions require every member of FFRP to think about it and to design concrete strategies in order to achieve what Rwandans expect of them,” adds the statement.

After the September legislative elections, there was a significant increase of the number of women representatives in parliament increasing from 49 to more than 56 percent.
