Amavubi Stars skipper Haruna Niyonzima, who plays for Tanzanian Vodacom Premier League champions Young Africans lost his household property when fire gutted his rented house in Dar es Salaam in the early morning hours of Thursday.

Niyonzima, who lives in Makuti, on the outskirts of Dar es Salaam, said he saw a thick cloud of smoke coming from the living room on Thursday morning at around 6am as he wok up to start preparing to go for training. On opening the door, he saw huge flames of fire that had gutted the whole room.

“I first smelt something burning then saw smoke in my bedroom.  On waking up to check what was happening, I found the living room engulfed in fire, almost everything in the room was on fire, I made an alarm and the neighbours came and helped to extinguish the fire,” Niyonzima told Saturday Sport from Dar es Salaam by phone

He added, “I am grateful we were able to extinguish the fire to my neighbours but all that property in the living room was reduced to ashes.”

Among the items he lost to the fire is sofa set chairs, a 42-inch plasma flat screen, audio music system as well as other valuables. According to the player, it was later discovered that the cause of the fire was a short circuit.

Niyonzima joined Yanga two years ago from APR FC and went on to win the Tanzanian league in his first season.
