Four artistes who travelled with the Rwanda delegation to the just concluded Francophone Games 2013 are reportedly missing, Lauren Makuza, director of culture promotion in the Ministry of Sports and Culture, has said.
Gerard Munyarugerero, Didier Ntizatureka, Fabrice Ndengera and Christian Ngirinshuti are missing and efforts to trace them have been fruitless.
Rwanda was represented by Benegihanga, a music group comprising Ibrahim Nahimana, Mani Martin, Didier Ntizatureka, Christian Ngirinshuti, Gerard Munyarugerero and Fabrice Ndengera.
Makuza told The New Times that the Ministry has already contacted the Rwandan embassy in France to look for the missing artistes and send them back home.
“We realised that four artistes from our delegation were missing last Friday, during the closing ceremony of Francophone Games 2013. We searched their hotel rooms but they were not there and even their luggage was also missing,” said Theoneste Nisingizwe, a journalist who travelled with the delegation.
Benegihanga beat 40 artistes from Francophone countries across the world, to win a bronze medal during the competition.
It’s not the first time such incident has happened. In 2010, two Rwandan artistes escaped while on an official trip in the U.S.A. In sports, Rwanda’s U-20 national football team defender Abdul Rwatubyaye disappeared on September 3, as the team prepared to compete for the first time in the Francophone games in France.
And in 2006, Jean de Dieu Uwimana escaped from the Rwanda volleyball delegation in France, while back in 2005, Jean Remi Bitana also disappeared during the senior Amavubi team in Germany.
