Primus national league rivals Kiyovu SC and APR FC are set to meet in a pre-season friendly tomorrow at Mumena stadium as both teams continue their preparations for the 2013/04 season, which starts on September 21.
The news was confirmed on Monday by Kiyovu’s head coach Gilbert Yaoundé Kanyankore, two days after his team beat visiting Congolese side, Rwenzori FC 5-4 in a friendly played on Saturday at Mumena.
“I am still assessing the players and their capacity, especially the first team because I need to have a picture of my first eleven team as the new season begins in just two weeks’ time,” said Kanyankore, who guided Burundian side Vital’ O to this year’s Cecafa Kagame Cup title after beating APR 2-0 in the finals in Darfur.
After signing for Kiyovu, the former Rayon Sports coach went back to Vital’O for the 2013 Cecafa Kagame Cup tournament best player Christian Mbirizi and defensive midfielder Yusuf Murekezi.
The club had already signed Sec Academy pair of striker Blaise Itangiteka and midfielder Didier Harerimana, Congolese-born centre back Mukamba from Etincelles as well the La Jeunesse trio of Ali Kayambe, Yusuf Munyakayanza and Jimmy Kakure.
Kanyankore, seeking to improve Kiyovu’s 8th position finish from last season, noted that the club is also close to completing the transfer of midfielder Ali Mousa, full back Jean Marie Girukwishaka and winger Michel Girukwishaka.
