National inter-schools boys basketball champions Lycee de Kigali (LDK) are targeting to win the boys’ title in this year’s East African post-primary games scheduled for August 24-31 in Lira, Northern Uganda.
The Nyarugenge-based school is making a fourth consecutive appearance at the regional games but have only reached semis once – in 2011 when they were under the captaincy of Brave Rutsindintwarane, who currently plays for league champions Espoir Basketball club.
The team, along with the other members of the Rwandan delegation, set off on Thursday morning and they are expected to arrive in Lira today evening.
Speaking with Times Sport before departure, LDK team captain Sankara Uwimana said, “We are targeting the title although we know it is not going to be easy as all opponents have the same objective… but we’re determination and motivated to achieve our target.”
And head coach Alexandre Ahishakiye is confident in his boys. “We have had enough preparations for the competitions and the entire squad is fit and equipped for the title chase.”
Rwanda will be represented by 23 teams in different sports disciplines. The delegation is led by the Director of Sports in the Ministry of Education, Paterne Rwigema.
