Miss Rwanda, Aurore Kayibanda Umutesi is in Belarus for the Miss Supranational 2013. She is among the 99 contestants from different countries.
“ Aurore has safely arrived in Minsk city, for the Miss Supranational beauty competition. She is in very good spirits and ready to raise the Rwandan flag high,” said Miss Rwanda’s mentor, Sabrina Kubwimana.
After her arrival on Sunday, Umutesi and the other beauty queens visited some of the country’s historical sites.
The contestants will compete in national costumes, swimsuits and gowns. The new Miss Supranational 2013 will be crowned in the Sport’s Palace of Minsk on September 6. The pageant kicked off on August 17 and ends on September 6.
The winner will bag US$30,000 (Rwf 20m); the first runner-up will receive $10,000 (Rwf6.7m); $5000 (Rwf 3.4m) will go the second runner-up; and the third runner-up will receive $3000 (Rwf 2m) in prize money.
Other awards up for grabs include the people’s choice award, swimwear award, evening gown award and the best costume award.
Rwanda’s 2012 representative, Sabrina Kubwimana, was voted Miss Personality at the beauty pageant held in Warsaw, Poland.
Miss Supranational is one of the leading international beauty contests and became an official member of the Grand Slam of Beauty Pageants in 2010.
The beauty pageant is recognised by the World Beauty Association and was founded in 2009. The first pageant was held in Poland.
