RUTSIRO - The Deputy Speaker of Chamber of Deputies, Ambassador Denis Polisi, yesterday honoured his pledge to support women farmers of Rutsiro District, Western Province, who could not succeed in using artificial insemination.
During the recent parliamentary election campaigns, residents of Rutsiro District complained to Polisi that artificial insemination was not working properly and had instead requested for heifers.
The Deputy Speaker who is also a senior member of Rwanda Patriotic Front (RPF), promised to give heifers from his personal farm to local associations; a pledge he honoured yesterday.
“Currently the Rwanda Animal Resource Development Agency (RARDA) cannot access some remote areas in the country meaning that people in those areas can not have effective productions as they are supposed to. That is why I pledged my support with two heifers,” said Polisi.
He added that he made his pledge in his capacity as a Rwandan who understands the policies of his nation and as a politician contributing to national development and supporting women’s prosperity.
Polisi’s farm which he has named Indatwa, is based in the outskirts of Kigali city.
The handover of the cattle was also attended by the Mayor of Rutsiro District, Jean Ndimubahire, who was accompanied by women representatives of the two associations which received the donation.
The associations were represented by Console Dushimimana of Duterimbere and Lucie Dusabimana from COPECEGI.
