Ships in 40 containers of items
Nakumatt Holdings, Kenya’s leading retail supermarket will open its Rwanda branch at the Union Trade Centre, in Kigali tomorrow.
Commerce Minister, Monuque Nsanzabaganwa is slated to officially launch Nakumatt’s presence in Kigali, a statement from Nakumatt says.
Management has shipped in 40 containers of assorted items that will be displayed on their shelves.
Alfred Ng’ang’a Ogilvy Public Relations Manager said, “Stocks for sale are now ready. Workers have been recruited and are already working.”
About 20,000 assorted products are to be sold in the Kigali supermarket. According to management, this is part of Nakumatt’s $20 million (Frw11 billion) regional expansion plan.
Ng’ang’a said agreements with suppliers in Rwanda have also been finalised. The store will stock a fair share of locally manufactured products. The chain store is employing 60 Rwandans to work in the Kigali branch.
Nakumatt is also planning to open three branches in Kampala, Uganda and three in Tanzania’s capital Dar es Salaam before the end of this year and early next year respectively.
