GICUMBI — Al least 14 people have been nominated to contest in the Rwanda Patriotic Front (RPF) district primaries.
Candidates endorsed from the primaries will then be front for the upcoming parliamentary elections.
Gicumbi district’s RPF Chairman Bonane Nyangezi, on Monday presented the candidates before cheering crowds of party faithful in Rutare and Rwamiko Sectors.
Nyangezi explained that out of the 14 nominees, four people including two women and two men will be chosen out by the district RPF Committee to contest in the September polls.
“This exercise of presenting RPF parliamentary candidates would be done in all the 21 Sectors of Gicumbi,” Nyangezi, who is also the district Mayor, said after announcing the names.
Each of the 14 contenders was given three minutes to brief the electorate about his or her education background, work experience, marital status and age.
The nominees include one of the current RPF legislators, Jean Marie Gatabazi, the chairperson of Gicumbi District Advisory council, Beatrice Nirere and the coordinator of the district cultural institution ‘Itorero’ John Nkunzurwanda.
“The names of the four selected candidates will be forwarded to RPF Political Bureau to be considered to contest in the parliamentary elections slated for September 15,” added Nyangezi.
The people who constitute the district RPF committee include, the district Administrative committee, district youth council, district women representatives, district representative of disabled persons, representatives of RPF at Sector levels and RPF chairpersons at Cell level among others.
Also present at the function was Senator Jean Baptist Bizimana and the Northern Province RPF vice chairman Mathias Rupia.
