Apparently, the population is not happy by the decision of the ministry of Agriculture for particular regions to grow specific crops. It would be better if the relevant authorities took a comprehensive programme aimed at teaching the people about the importance of such an action. This will remove the lingering scepticism that we could be heading for famine as the lack of traditional crops like beans are getting less attention. This is a complaint from people of Eastern Province, in the former Kibungo areas. This system is good and more pragmatic, as it will alleviate the problem of land fragmentation that has for several decades left harvests being insufficient, thus subjecting the population to perpetual famine and poverty, as they could not produce extra food for sales.Now that the UN dedicated October 16 as World Food Day, let the theme for the case of Rwanda be meaningful mobilization towards the population about the dire need for newly introduced methods, and the fruits the population are to reap from such a new agricultural approach.
