GICUMBI — Congolese refugees living at Gihembe Refugee Camp in Kageyo Sector, of Gicumbi District have appealed to DR Congo government to pacify their country by disarming Rwandan rebel groups.

They made the appeal last Sunday during activities to remember their colleagues who were massacred by insurgency groups operating in DR Congo.

The ceremony was marked by a peaceful demonstration within the camp, calling for the immediate disarmament of insurgent groups such as the Rwandan rebels [FDLR] operating in their country.

"We want peace in DRC," demanded the demonstrators, carrying placards bearing the day’s theme that called upon everyone to support the AMANI process in DR. Congo and stop refugees’ influx in the Great Lakes region.

Innocent Rwasamanzi, the camp leader called upon all countries in the Great Lakes region to advocate for peace process in DR. Congo. "The DRC Government should disarm FDLR and other insurgency groups in our country," said Rwasamanzi.
