Rwanda has slumped10 places in the Fifa rankings from 99 in December to 109 in January, according to the latest rankings released on Wednesday.

The Amavubi Stars have not only slumped in world rankings but also on the continent, dropping three places from 26 to 29.

Rwanda had ended 2007 on a high after improving her ranking from 122 to 99; however, the defeat to Sudan in the final of the Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup could be the root cause for the latest fall.

However, Amavubi Stars assistant coach Antoinne Rutsindura thinks otherwise about the latest release.

Rutsindura said, "We are confident about achieving a better ranking once the CAN/FIFA qualifiers get underway (in May).

"We also believe that through stability, discipline and support (of Amavubi team), Rwanda will be ranked highly before the end of this year," he stated Before adding that, "I don’t know the procedures used to make rankings but one thing for sure could be that our defeat against Sudan may have been included in these rankings".

"Let us concentrate on building a strong team, then good rankings will automatically fetch themselves," Rutsindura stressed. Rwanda’s opponents in the 2010 CAN/FIFA qualifiers; Morocco and Ethiopia are ahead with the North African giants sixth in Africa and 39th in the world while Ethiopia is 21st and 90.

However, Rwanda is ahead of her other CAN/WC qualifiers opponent, Mauritania that is 33rd and 112th on the continent and world respectively.
