On Sunday, the ‘Green Baggies’ defeated Bugesera FC 2-0 to open up a two-point lead at the top of the league table.

“We have tough fixtures which are important battles to fight for the top position. We can’t afford losing focus, especially now. This season is a big year for us so we need to put everything we have to win more games,” Mbugo said.

“We are heading to the tougher competition. We have to up our game in all aspects, if we are to survive the tough fixtures and it is achievable. The league will require every player to be at his best. Teamwork is also very crucial,” he added.

Skipper, Fabrice Mugheni Kakure netted the opener with a header in the 36th minute off a well taken corner by Djuma Nizeyimana. In the 65th minute, Congolese born Mugheni Kakure was replaced by Francis Mustafa.

The Burundian forward Mustafa scored the second goal in the 80th minute after an assist by Innocent Habyarimana.

The hosts dominated the proceedings from the start of the first half but missed several opportunities.
