Police FC will host AS Kigali on match day 12 of the Azam Rwanda Premier League on Tuesday afternoon at Kicukiro Stadium as both teams seek to close the gap on table leaders SC Kiyovu, who play away to Kirehe FC in the day’s other fixture.
The two teams are separated by three points – with visitors AS Kigali in second with 21 points, while hosts Police are in fifth place with 18 points.
Police head coach Innocent Seninga acknowledges that AS Kigali will be a tough test for his side, but has backed his team to edge the City of Kigali-sponsored side.
“I have told my players to be mentally strong because we are facing a team that is one of the favourites to win the league this season. We should not lose hope even if they score first,” Seninga told Times Sport on Monday.
Eric Nshimiyimana’s AS Kigali, who is looking to win his first title in his coaching career since 2005, will be seeking to win and hope that leaders Kiyovu, on 23 points, can slip up against thirteenth-placed Kirehe FC, which would take his team at the top of the table with 24 points.
“We have to make sure we’re ready for every game. We want to make good progress and end the season strongly,” said Nshimiyimana.
In their last 24 league meetings, Police FC have won nine matches against five for AS Kigali while 11 games have ended in draws. AS Kigali will go into the game seeking to end a run of six defeats against Police FC.
Meanwhile, Andre Casa Mbungo’s SC Kiyovu will miss the services of midfielder Rachid Kalisa who was sent off in their last game against Bugesera FC.
