Former national U-19 cricket team captain Don de dieu Mugisha is eying the 2017 V.R NAIDU T20 title with his new side, Kigali Cricket Club.
The 22-year old, now full Rwanda international signed with KCC at the end of last season from Right Guards cricket club and he has gone on to shine for his new team leading them to their first ever final of this particular competition.
KCC will face Telugu Royals in the final on Sunday (today) at the Kicukiro cricket ground. KCC beat Impala Titans in the semi-final while Telugu overcame three-time reigning and defending champions, Challengers cricket club.
“I signed for KCC because I wanted to win trophies and in my first season with them we have qualified for the final, and given the morale and preparations we’ve had, I am confident we can beat Telugu in the finals,” said Mugisha.
The all-round player has been in the formidable form throughout the tournament and stands higher among his team-mates having notched 150 runs and 5 catches.
“Don is great asset for our team, we hope to have him as long as he still have the ability to play, he is big player with admirable experience and skills in the game,” KCC captain Hassan Zaki said of his team’s star player.
However, in the title match, KCC will face a Telugu side that is aiming to continue their impressive from last season where they won two trophies including the Computer Point T20 and UAE Exchange 50-Overs Premier League.
Zaki noted that, “We know that we are being looked at as the underdogs but we are ready to give Telugu a run for their money until the last ball.”
