RRA, UNIK win Carre d'AS volleyball tournament

Rwanda Revenue Authority and Kibungo University came from behind to win the Carre d’As titles after beating APR in both men and women finals matches played on Sunday at NPC Gymnasium at Amahoro National Stadium.

Rwanda Revenue Authority and Kibungo University came from behind to win the Carre d’As titles after beating APR in both men and women finals matches played on Sunday at NPC Gymnasium at Amahoro National Stadium.

Women league champions RRA lost the opening set 27-25 and the second set 25-21 but Jean De Dieu Masumbuko’s side recovered strongly and won three consecutive sets 25-23, 25-18 and 15-9.

UNIK defeated their rivals 3-2—the first set went to APR 25-15 and Dominique Ntawangundi’s team took the second and third sets 25-17 and 25-21 but Sammy Mulinge’s army side fought back and won the fourth set 25-18 before UNIK claimed the decisive set 17-15.

UNIK have won four titles this season including the league, Carre d’As, Genocide Memorial tournament and KAVC Memorial tourney while RRA have added Carre d’AS to the league but lost in the finals of both Genocide and KAVC Memorial tournaments.

The annual Carre d’AS tourney brings together the top four teams in the league in both the men and women categories.

The winners UNIK and RRA took home Rwf350,000 each on top of the trophies while first runners-up APR men and women got Rwf250,000. Second runners-up IPRC-South and Kerehe (men) took home Rwf200,000 while St Alloys de Rwamagana and Ruhango (women) each took with Rwf100,000.

Meanwhile, UNIK and RRA were handed their 2016 league trophies and Rwf500, 000 each while APR men and women received Rwf300, 000 for finishing second and St Alloys and Kirehe got Rwf200, 000 after finishing in third position.
