The Management of Kigali City Council (KCC) has hailed casual labourers, popularly known as Karani Ngufu, for their contribution towards the general cleanliness of Kigali.
This was said Thursday by Dr Aisa Kirabo Kacyira, the City Mayor while addressing over 2,000 casual labourers at Nyamirambo Regional Stadium in Nyarugenge district.
“You have been characterized by total discipline during the execution of your daily duties and this is worth recognizing…your work has also enabled Kigali to remain one of the cleanliest cities in the world,” Kirabo told the casual labourers.
She further called upon them to always collaborate with KCC in its various activities, calling upon them to play a major role in the implementation of all government programmes.
They were further encouraged to participate in the forthcoming presidential elections and use their energy in rebuilding the country.
The Mayor also thanked them for their contribution towards the One Dollar Campaign.
KCC donated Rwf2 million to Karani Ngufu Cooperative and according to Kirabo, the donation is aimed at boosting activities for casual laborers in the city.
David Buate, who spoke on behalf of the casual labourers, hailed President Paul Kagame for his contribution towards the creation of cooperatives which has enabled them to improve their living conditions financially and socially.
“Before forming our cooperatives, many of us were totally illiterates and considered as thugs, but after joining cooperatives, life has completely changed in all aspects of life,” he said.
He also promised that casual labourers would always work closely with KCC in various developmental activities and vowed to collaborate with security organs in maintaining security in the city.
