MTN Rwanda launches 4G LTE on mobile devices

MTN Rwanda today announced the launch of 4G LTE on mobile phones enabling customers with 4G enabled devices to make voice calls and use mobile data on the 4G LTE network. This latest development will allow customers to maintain a full 4G experience during a call. This means voice and data stay on the same part of the network, therefore giving consistently high surfing speeds, even while making phone calls. Speaking about this service, MTN Chief Executive Officer, Gunter Engling said, “We at MTN aim to provide our customers with the best possible user experience by adapting new technologies such as the introduction of 4G LTE on mobile devices.” Han-Sung Yoon (Patrick), Chief Executive Officer of olleh Rwanda networks, the 4G LTE infrastructure provider commented, ”oRn commends MTN Rwanda for this achievement and pledges continuous support towards more innovative solutions based on 4G LTE Technology.” To enjoy the 4G experience, existing MTN subscribers will have to upgrade their SIM cards to a 4G SIM card for only 1,000Rwf and get a 4G-capable device, all of which are available at any MTN Service Centre across the country. Once connected to the 4G network, customers will dial *345# and select the 4G bundle to purchase a daily, weekly or monthly pack. Commonly known as 4G LTE, the 4th Generation Long-Term Evolution internet network offers the fastest wireless communication on high-speed data for mobile phones and devices such as modems and routers. Tigo Rwanda was the first telecom company to launch the 4G LTE internet for smart phones in October last year since 4G LTE was introduced in 2014.
