Rwanda v Eritrea
Tanzania Football Federation President Leodegar Paul Chila Tenga is the new president for Confederation of East and Central Africa Football Federation (Cecafa).
Tenga won with eight votes beating Ethiopian football federation president Ashebir Georgis whose votes tallied to 3 respectively to replace Uganda’s Denis Obua to the regional football body’s presidency post in the congress held yesterday in Dar es Salaam.
The other contestant Kamal Sadad of Sudan had pulled out of the race for the regional football presidency prior to the Cecafa congress.
The incumbent president Denis Obua had already declared that he will not seek re-election. Nicholas Musonye remains the Cecafa Secretary General and will serve another four year term as his post is by appointment.
Past Cecafa leaders include Uganda’s Kezekiah Musisi and Farah Addo of Somalia who served until 2003 before handing over the baton to Obua.
Meanwhile, Tanzania meets traditional rivals Kenya in the trend-setter of the Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup today.
Rwanda face Eritrea on December 9 as group rivals Uganda takes on Djibouti in the first game of the day.
The tournament is sponsored by GTV for four years to the tune of $6m. Through the deal, GTV takes ownership of the media and commercial rights to the Challenge Cup.
