NYAGATARE — The Regional Police Commander, Chief Supt. Gilbert Gumira Rwampungu, has warned grassroots leaders in Nyagatare district against collaborating with drug dealers.
While meeting the local leaders last week, Chief Supt. Gumira said that the grassroots leaders have been cited in cases of illicit drugs smuggled into the district from the neighboring Uganda.
‘You should work hard to build your country instead of supporting people who are bent on destroying gains made through trade in illicit drugs…it has been reported that some of you local leaders are corrupted by these smugglers,’ he said.
During the meeting, Kiyombe sector was named as being an infamous transit route for the illicit drugs.
Eric Rwamu, one of the local leaders in the district expressed concerns about some unconfirmed reports that some leaders were receiving bribes from drugs smugglers.
