After reading in this publication that a 2008 survey revealed that half the girls miss school during their menstruation period, I’m pleased that a public awareness campaign on the subject of menstruation will soon begin in a bid to find solutions to the problem.
Such a huge number of girls missing classes is unfortunate. In addition to the sensitization program, the government can negotiate with manufacturers of sanitary pads to provide these school girls with sanitary towels at a subsidized price.
Or even for free. This will surely keep a huge number of girls at school.
On another facet of this problem of children not being in school, I want to ask the relevant authorities to ensure that children utilize the Nine Year Basic Education to get education.
I was traveling recently, on a school day, yet I still saw children playing along the road or working in the fields.
I assume that it is the task of the local authorities to ensure that parents send their children to school.
It is useless to have free education if the children aren’t simply going to school.
