COMPLACENCY worked against two-time champions APR as former giants Kigali Institute of Education (KIE) pulled off a shocking 27-22 win in their backyard.

KIE’s win was masterminded by former APR forwards Janvier Mushinzimana and Jean Lucien Munezero and KIE coach and former national team captain Francois Ngarambe believes that the win is a glimpse of what is in stock.

“We strengthened our team with a couple of new players and believe we can launch a serious quest for the title this season,” he said.

Ngarambe played an integral role in KIE’s squad which won the league in 2003, 2004 and 2006.

Last year, KIE finished bottom while APR, who did not lose a single game topped proceedings with 30 points.

According to Antoine Ntabanganyimana, the national handball federation’s technical advisor, the league has been put on hold until April 24 due to the mourning period.
