THE National Electoral Commission (NEC), in conjunction with Rusizi district has trained over 52 people in the district to carry out voters’ civic education.

At least four people were drawn from each of the 13 sectors of the district.

“Since these are the people who interact with the grass root citizens, they need to be aware of all myths that come up during the election period. They should teach the citizens about the aim of voting and why they should vote for good leadership,” said Fabien Sindayiheba, the district Mayor.

According to Théodomir Ngarambe, a NEC official in Rusizi, the trainees would help enlighten residents on several issues about elections.

“Some local residents don’t know the necessity of voting while others follow whatever rumor they hear. If the trainees pass on what they have been taught, all these problems will be addressed,” said Ngarambe.

Nadine Michele Ingabire, a trainee from Gashonga Sector, said, “We shall start by addressing problems that might affect voters’ turn up on election day.”
