A Gacaca court in Kanombe sector has ordered Theogene Rutayisire, the brother to Genocide fugitive Felicien Kabuga, to pay Rwf70m to the family of the late, Gerald Karumeyi whose property he snatched during the 1994 Genocide against Tutsi.

Witnesses told Gacaca court that Rutayisire together with a host of other area leaders, vandalized Karumeyi’s household and also took 150 cows.

The local court which passed the ruling on March 2 in absentia, found him guilty of forcefully taking Karumeyi’s property.

Alphonse Rwamurima, Karumeyi’s son and family representative confirmed the ruling when contacted yesterday.

“The court ruled that we get paid within 30 days or his property be sold to compensate us,” Rwamurima said when contacted on phone.

The same court also ruled that Andre Sebatware, a former politician pays the same family Rwf 113m after finding him guilty of being involved in the looting of the property.
Sebatware is also on the run.
