Orange Champions League
APR vs Mazembe 3:30pm (Amahoro stadium)
APR coach Erik Paske has urged his team to show their killer instinct by going for TP Mazembe’s jugular in tomorrow’s Orange Champions’ League clash at Amahoro Stadium.
The 42-year-old Dutch tactician made the comment after watching a video between Mazembe and Pohang Steelers FC from Korea Republic during last year’s World Cup Club Championship where the Korean club edged the Congolese side 2-1.
“They are a very attack minded side and of course possess one of the best strikers on the continent in Tresor Mputu, so the only way to counter that is by attacking them too.”
“We will take the game to them and frustrate them by keeping the ball,” Paske said.
Paske also refused to say whether the team had special plans for Mazembe’s play maker Mputu, who was recently named the best African player on the continent by CAF.
“I cannot tell you that, but we know about him,” Paske said of the 25-year-old.
Meanwhile the African champions jetted in yesterday afternoon and are residing at Top Tower hotel.
Bonnie Mugabe also reports that APR skipper Patrick Mafisango has urged club fans to rally behind the side on Saturday.
“We need all the support we can get so I’m urging our fans to come in big numbers.”
APR, who dislodged Angola’s Recreativo do Libolo in the first round have never reached the group stage of this competition.
In the first round, APR beat Recreativo on goal aggregates (3-2).
