MUHANGA – Over 24 vulnerable members of Umuryango Cooperative in Nyamabuye sector in Muhanga district, on Tuesday received rabbits as part of the effort to fight poverty.

The rabbits were donated by the Groundwork Opportunities (GO-Rwanda), an America based Non-governmental organization, whose offspring are passed on to new members in a rotation.

The NGO had earlier donated a total of 60 rabbits to the cooperative.

A Go-Rwanda official, Anita Murekatete, stated that the project would continue supporting vulnerable families in the fight against poverty.

“This project is part of a larger one which has constructed houses, cultivated vegetable gardens and paid for medical insurance for over 500 persons since last year. This support will continue,” she pledged.

The beneficiaries thanked the institution for the outreach and promised to share the rabbits with other poor residents in the future.

“The rabbits will be a source of income to improve on their livelihood since they multiply in big numbers,” said Jeanne Nyirahakizimana, one of the beneficiaries.
