KIMIHURURA - Rwanda’s first ever public recreation centre was yesterday launched in Kimihurura as part of celebrations to mark Kigali City’s hundred years of existence. The park is situated in the environs of the Ministry of Defence headquarters. Defence Minister Gen. Marcel Gatsinzi described the move as an indication of how the ministry respects environment conservation and development related strategies.

The park is located in the environs of the Ministry of Defense.

“We thought that this place can’t only be for the Military; we therefore open its gates today for all Rwandans to come and enjoy,” Gatsinzi said.

The park, which will be completed in about three years, will cost Frw155 million which will be used to upgrade it to a fully facilitated recreational centre.

Gatsinzi said that his ministry will ensure maximum supervision of the park including maintaining its greenness and cleanliness.

Kigali City Mayor Dr Aisa Kirabo Kacyira called on district leaders to identify many other entertainment parks, adding that though the city has clean roads, it is still lacking resting places for its dwellers and visitors.

She added that the park should collectively be catered for by everyone in order for it to serve for future generations.
The function climaxed with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Defense Ministry and the City of Kigali.
