RUBAVU - A-25- year old woman in Rubavu district, Clementine Uwimana died instantly after being struck by lightning on Saturday.
The Rugerero sector Executive Secretary, Jean Sebikari, said the incident happened during a heavy afternoon down pour.
When The New Times visited the burial ceremony mourners were not allowed to weep as it would contravene the taboos.
“Uwimana died and the family is in a deep shock but weeping is forbidden. We had to bury her on the same day as tradition demands for those struck by lightning,” Sebikari said.
According to Sebikari, the area residents still believe in cultural and traditional norms and that is the reason the deceased was strictly buried on the same day she died.
