RUBAVU – Countries under the Economic Community of the Great Lakes (CEPGL) plan to create interuniversity network early this year to facilitate resource sharing among higher institutions of learning.
Sources say Ministers of Education from Rwanda, DR Congo and Burundi, government experts and delegates drawn from public and private universities are scheduled to meet in the Burundian capital Bujumbura from January 25-29, to conclude the deal.
According to Professor Honorine Ntahobavuka, the Director in charge of Education and Research in CEPGL, all universities which have been contacted support the initiative.
“There is a need to cooperate and share resources in the education sector,” Ntahobavuka said. “That means that we need to ease the way of doing research and share lectures.”
“Having a uniform academic year calendar and curriculum will foster integration mainly in the region.”
This five-day conference will attract officials from Belgium cooperation, World Bank, African Development Bank, organization of Francophone Universities and other speakers.
