Muhanga in major security swoop

SOUTHERN PROVINCE - MUHANGA - Over 600 idlers were yesterday arrested, screened and most of them were later released ahead of the New Year’s celebrations in Nyamabuye sector, Muhanga district. However five of them were held over possession of army uniforms, ammunition, drugs and local illicit brew commonly known ‘Kanyanga’ while 42 were detained for lack of proper identification.

SOUTHERN PROVINCE - MUHANGA - Over 600 idlers were yesterday arrested, screened and most of them were later released ahead of the New Year’s celebrations in Nyamabuye sector, Muhanga district.

However five of them were held over possession of army uniforms, ammunition, drugs and local illicit brew commonly known ‘Kanyanga’ while 42 were detained for lack of proper identification.

Security officials said that the operation was aimed at curbing crime and netting suspected criminals around the town centre especially during this festive season.

During the same operation, residents of Rutenga village, Gahogo cell also reported to police about a body of an infant- who was killed and dumped behind Gitarama stadium.

The decomposed body was found in a banana plantation opposite an orphanage and it is suspected it was dumped there three days ago.

Police said that there were no clues to the cause of the death of the infant but an investigation was immediately launched.
