KIGALI - Police yesterday handed over to Kenyan a stolen vehicle that was recovered in Rubavu District. A Kenyan national suspected to have stolen the vehicle was also extradited.

Yusuf Mahmud Saghair, 50 was arrested two weeks ago by Rwandan Interpol following a notice from the Kenyan police that he had stolen a car and could be hiding in Rwanda.

The car registration number KBH 742V, a Mitsubishi truck, was also handed over to the Kenyan police.

“The Kenyan Interpol notified us after tracking the car that it was in the western part of Rwanda and that’s exactly where we found Saghair and arrested him,” Police spokesperson Eric Kayiranga said.

Saghair is reported to have been arrested in Rubavu while trying to cross to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) where he had found a client.

Simon Ondego, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officer of Rachonyo District in Southern Kenya who received the car and the suspect on behalf of the Kenyan government, commended Rwanda National Police for its cooperation in tracking down the suspect.

This is the second Kenyan vehicle that has been recovered in Rwanda this year.
