THE Ministry of Sports and Culture has pledged to buy a rally car for Rwanda Automobile Club, RAC next year.
Sports and Culture minister Joseph Habineza revealed to Times Sport early this week that his ministry will purchase the car for RAC as one way of helping the Automobile Club to develop the motorsport in the country.

“We (the sports ministry) will support them (RCA) by purchasing a high quality rally car,” Habineza told this paper on Monday.

However, Habineza did not confirm the type of car his ministry intends to purchase saying they are waiting for the local automobile body to come with their proposal which the ministry is ready to fund.

Meanwhile, Rwanda’s Mountain Gorilla rally has been reinstated back to FIA Africa Rally Championship (ARC) after securing sponsorship from Kenya Commercial Bank.

The KCB Rwanda Mt. Gorilla rally will become the fourth round on the 2010 FIA Africa Rally Championship.

The rally has been set for June 04-06, 2010 and will come after the Kobil Rally of Tanzania (February 19-21), KCB Safari Rally Kenya (April 02-04) and Pearl of Africa Uganda rally (April 30-May 02).

The six-round championship will crown off with the Zambia International rally (July 16-18) and Toyota Zimbabwe Challenge Rally (August 27-29).
