GICUMBI – Land registration exercise shall kick start next week in Bukure Sector of Gicumbi District.

This was revealed last Wednesday by National land registration officers, in a meeting chaired by Mayor Bonane Nyangezi that brought together District officials and Sector executive Secretaries at Gicumbi District conference hall.

Addressing participants, the national land registration coordinator Francois Ntaganda called on local leaders at village, cell and sector level to assist land registration officials to accomplish their objectives.

“Registration of individual land ownership is very important because it shall act as security in banks, for residents who intent to acquire loans to finance their economic activities”, said Ntaganda. He further said cases emanating from land ownership differences shall cease to exist, when all land is registered countrywide.

Land registration officials further cautioned local leaders against registering government land on individual basis, saying those who shall be caught in the act shall face serious legal measures.

“During land registration exercise, individual land owners and mudugudu leaders’ presence shall be required”, added Ntaganda.

Mayor Bonane Nyangezi said registration of land shall guarantee security to land owners and reduce land disputes in the district. He called upon local leaders to cooperate with land registration officials during the exercise.

“Individual land registration is stipulated in the Rwandan Constitution, which is why you should cooperate with the land registration officials during the exercise”, said Nyangezi.
