Orphaned children and those from poor households in Rusiga sector Rulindo district were over the weekend given goats to enable them start up agricultural activities that will drive them out of dire poverty.
The 100 goats were donated to them by Rwanda Stiftung, a charitable organization based in Germany.
“We had earlier held a meeting with sector elders and teachers and parent representatives who helped us to come up with the list of 100 children in most need of our help and these are the people to benefit today,” Sally Martin the Project Manager of Rwanda Stiftung said.
Martin said that the project started in March and has so far given out 300 goats to children of the same village.
“After six months we shall come back to evaluate and reward with two chicken those that still have their animal.
When we come back a third time and the child has both the goat and the chicken, we will give his family some credit to start up a business, perhaps a small animal farm.”
