Former genocide convicts collaborate with survivors in poverty alleviation

KARONGI — Former Genocide convicts and survivors in Karongi district are working together to fight poverty under Turwubake association. The association, composed of over 30 members recently opened a bank account to collect savings that will be used to help eradicate poverty among the members of the association.

KARONGI — Former Genocide convicts and survivors in Karongi district are working together to fight poverty under Turwubake association.

The association, composed of over 30 members recently opened a bank account to collect savings that will be used to help eradicate poverty among the members of the association.

In an interview with The New Times, Francois Ndangamira, one of the founder members recounted how it was initially hard for him to enjoy life after serving his prison term.

“Even with the existing reconciliation, things have never been this serious. I did not know if things would ever be normal for us again,” Ndangamira said.
