AIDS stigma is so old fashioned

Editor,

As we remembered the World Aids day yesterday, December 1st, I could not help but come to the cold realisation that people are still afraid of socialising with HIV/AIDS patients.

It’s sad to know that in this day and age, there are those who believe that physical contact like shaking hands will transmit the HIV virus.

What’s even worse is that others are even afraid to talk to people living positively.

This not only shows that people are ignorant, but that there is need for further socially based education about the disease.

With more campaigns reaching the illiterate and most remote areas, that have no access to modern communication, the HIV/AIDS stigma will be history in Rwanda.
