GLOBAL Cycling Club of Holland and France’s Castel Sarrasi are some of the elite teams set to compete in the 11th edition of the Tour of Rwanda, slated to run from November 16 to 24.

This was recently revealed by the president of the National Cycling Federation (Ferwacy) Aimable Bayingana.

“We expect teams from Holland, France, Morocco, Gabon, Cameroon, Kenya, Uganda and Burundi among others,” he said.

Bayingana also expects the tour to put local cycling on the map.

“It is the first time that we are hosting a competition of this magnitude. This year, the tour has been included on the UCI (International Cycling Union) calendar, which is a big plus for local cycling.

This tour will definitely boost the sport and we hope to have more locals coming on board,” Bayingana said.

With three days left to the prestigious event, Ferwacy is still locked up in discussions over the tour insurer. Bayingana recently highlighted that Ferwacy was still looking for an insurer for the tour.

“We are still weighing the different options on our table but there is no doubt that we shall have an insurance company on board by the end of Friday,” he said.

Sixty cyclists are expected to take part in the eight day event which will cover a total of 1069km.

The Ministry of Sports, Rwanda Development Bank (RDB), OCIR-THE, Fina bank, Western Union, Soras, CNLG and MTN-Rwanda are some of the sponsors for this year’s edition.
