FIFA U-17 World Cup
Argentina 2-1 Germany
Nigeria 1-0 Honduras
Switzerland 4-3 Japan
Brazil 0-1 Mexico
The second round of games in Groups A and B at the FIFA U-17 Nigeria 2009 brought yet more joy for Argentina and Switzerland as both booked their place in the Round of 16 in double-quick time.
The host Nigerians followed up an encouraging result in their opening game with a win over Honduras, and Mexico put Brazil to the sword once more to revive their hopes of advancing to the knockout stages.
The day began with La Albiceleste and the Swiss coming from behind to record respective wins over Germany and Japan, underlining their maturity and innate self-confidence.
Later in the day, hosts Nigeria notched their first win of the tournament thanks to Abdul Ajagun’s lone goal against an obdurate Honduras, who made life hard for the title aspirants, while Mexico tripped up the three-time champions to revive memories of their Peru 2005 triumph with a 1-0 win.
